Hajj and its importance to Muslims – British haj travel
Hajj is a one time in lifetime pilgrimage of Muslims to Mecca. It is in Saudi Arabia. Hajj should be performed at least one time in a Muslims lifetime. For Muslims, the Hajj is the fifth and final pillar of Islam. It occurs in the month of Dhul Hijjah, which is the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar.
The hajj makes Muslims feel the real importance of life here on earth, and the after-life and shows the real meaning of life. During the Hajj, the pilgrims perform act of worship, and ask forgiveness. The Kaba plays a big part in the Hajj; it is the centre, because Muslims go around it seven times. Ibrahim and his son Ismail built the Kaba, about four thousand years before Mohammed was born. The quote from the Quaran says,“ And when Ibrahim and Ismail Built the House and dedicated it…” 2:127
Muslims should perform Hajj, if they can afford it, the quote from the Quaran says, “If you are prevented, send such offerings as you can afford…” 2:196
Only 5% of the Muslim population get to go on Hajj every year. This is a very small percentage of the Muslim population. Hajj includes Eid Ul Adha and the sacrifice; people in the Hajj have to sacrifice animals, when the ritual is nearly at its end. The quote in the Quaran says, “And camels we have made a part of Allah’s rites. They are of much use to you. Pronounce over them the name of Allah as they line up: and when they have fallen down their sides, eat their flesh and feed with it with the poor and the beggar.” 22:36
Hajj has rules, which should be kept; they are that no Muslims can have sexual intercourse during the Holy period. People should keep peace with everyone.
There are many reasons why masses of Muslims from all around the globe carry out Hajj. One of the reasons is that Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and is a compulsory duty upon a Muslim. It is done to show true faith and belief for Islam.
Many Muslims save all their lives to go to Hajj. Muslims go to Hajj because they feel it makes them closer to Allah and cleaner from inside. People go to hajj because they say if you go all your sins will be forgiven. It is like a new beginning for a Muslim, people go to get a fresh start and forget about their
bad recent past. It says in the Quran, “Perform the pilgrimage and visit for Allah”. 21:193
Many people go to Hajj because they have been brought up to think that the house of Allah is the only place to be on earth. People who complete it are pleased with the titles of Hajji (for a man) and Hajja (for a woman). Muslims would want to go on hajj to strengthen their belief in Allah and learn more about the religion of Islam.
