Ramadan Opens the Gates of Paradise

How fast time flies! A full year has passed, full of happy and sad events, and these nights and days will never return because mostly said that Ramadan Opens the Gates of Paradise. Have you learned from the past? Have you forgotten your deeds during the last year? They are either good deeds, which you want to conceal so that you will receive their reward on the Last Day when neither wealth nor sons will avail you, and in this case, forgetting them is the best thing to do, or they are otherwise. Why do you overload yourself with the debt of sins when you will have to pay for them with your good deeds? Why are you reluctant to work for the Hereafter while can still plant good deeds so that you reap the fruits of righteousness by the blessing of Allaah The Almighty?

Seize your days, nights, minutes and seconds, seek forgiveness and repent to Allaah The Almighty from whatever sin the devil calls you to commit.

Fasting Hadith

Our Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), used to seek the forgiveness of Allaah The Almighty and repent to him more than seventy or one hundred times a day, so raise yourself to the ranks of the rightly guided, who follow the guidance of the best Messenger. Adhere to the way of the pious so that you may join them; seek the forgiveness of Allaah The Almighty who granted you health and innumerable favors.
With the advent of Ramadan, Your Lord has given you another opportunity that others may have lost, so that you live through the month of forgiveness and rejoice in the graces of Allaah The Almighty, remembering Him, reciting the Quran, fasting, and standing at night in prayer.

Fruit of Fasting

Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous}[Quran 2:183]What is this righteousness that is the fruit of fasting? Righteousness means that Allaah The Almighty is obeyed and not disobeyed, that He is remembered and not forgotten, and that He is thanked and not shown ungratefulness.
Allaah The Almighty Says after this call (what means): {The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allaah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allaah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful} [Quran 2:185]

Completion of Ramadan

He, The Almighty, States that He is close and responds to anyone who takes recourse to Him; He Says (what means): {And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.}[Quran 2: 186 ] It is as if He urges you – after the completion of Ramadan – to raise your hands to thank Him for His bounty, ask for His mercy, beseech Him for Paradise and seek refuge with Him from Hellfire.
The most important objective of fasting is to attain piety, which means to fear Allaah The Exalted, to act according to His religion, to be satisfied with His provision even if it is little, and to prepare oneself for the day of departure. What a beautiful thing fasting is! It purifies the soul and raises it to the rank of the noble souls. It is a reason for the remission of sins and the multiplication of rewards, thus Allaah The Almighty associate it to Himself so as to honor it. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), narrated about his Lord – blessed and exalted is He: “Every (good) deed of the son of Adam would be multiplied, a good deed receiving a tenfold to seven hundredfold reward with the exception of fasting, for it is done for Me and I will give a reward for it.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]He The Almighty also says: “There is expiation for each action, and fasting is for Me, and I shall reward for it.” [Al-Bukhaari]

Sincerity means being deeply devoted to Allah by heart

As for those who believe and do right actions and humble themselves before their Lord, they are the Companions of the Heaven, remaining in it timelessly, forever. (Surah Hud, 23)

Belief In ALLAH:

Sincerity means being deeply devoted to Allah by heart. A sincere person has a deep fear for Allah, profoundly believes in Him, sees and advocates the righteousness in the best way. A sincere person is the one who believes in Allah with certainty, the Hereafter, prophets, the Heaven and the Hell and angels.

Belief in Allah’s Prophets:

Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and mercy be upon him) and all other prophets including Prophet Jesus, Prophet Moses, Prophet Abraham, Prophet Solomon, Prophet Joseph, Prophet Jonah, Prophet Job (peace be upon them all) are the sincere servants of Allah. We are aware of the prophets’ sincerity because Allah sees them sincere and declares them to be so. All of the prophets were blessed people who were devoted to our All-Mighty Lord with great love and experienced sincerity in its most profound state. Likewise, due to their sincerity, all the prophets were blessed people who absolutely engaged in the most accurate act, whose deeds resulted in good and beauty and who truly turned to Allah in all their deeds.

Due to his fear for Allah and profound love of Allah, a sincere person is someone who readily discriminates between the right and the wrong, who absolutely implements what is right according to the Qur’an and, without seeing any limits in closeness to Allah and love for him, who discharges all the requirements of the religion in the most accurate and absolute manner. Consequently, sincerity is the kind of attitude which appears with fear of Allah, and closeness and love of Him and is experienced in the form as depicted in the Qur’an.

When one examines the Qur’an with a sincere heart one can immediately see that the Qur’an is the true Divine book. But if someone has never had access to the Qur’an, then he is Ahl Al-Fatrat, but if he believes in the one Allah, loves and fears Allah, does good works for His approval and prays, fasts and performs his religious duties as required by the religion, then that person may hope for Paradise.

However, nobody can ever be certain that either he or anyone else will go to Heaven or Hell. So long as a morally virtuous person lives for the approval of Allah he may hope for Paradise from Him, and one may hope that this person will be one of the saved, though one can never be certain of this. As Allah reveals in the Qur’an, all believers live “between hope and fear:”
Their sides eschew their beds as they call on their Lord in fear and ardent hope. And they give of what We have provided for them. (Surat As-Sajda, 16)

Since sincerity can only be experienced with unconditional belief in Allah, hoping for the Heaven merely saying, “I am sincere,” without fulfilling the decrees of the religion is an insincere view that only deceives the person himself. It is a great collapse of reason to appear with reasoning commanding that “Satanists can go to the Heaven if they are sincere” and try to show a criminal person who overtly murders a human being and who evidently denies Allah as a sincere person deserving the Heaven.
A person who denies Allah commits crimes and engages in immoral acts commits all these misdeeds due to his insincerity and his disbelieving and rebellious mind. Such a person is not even remotely close to sincerity. He is dishonest and a liar. What is essential is not one’s seeing himself sincere but the recognition of his sincerity by Allah. As long as a satanist does not regret, repent and turn to Allah with sincerity, he is an unbeliever who is doomed to Hell. (Allah knows the truth)

Almighty Allah gives as an example in the Qur’an of a man who owns a garden and who considers himself sincere and thinks that he deserves the Heaven even though he is in complete denial of the Hereafter:
He entered his garden and wronged himself by saying, “I do not think that this will ever end. I do not think the Hour will ever come. But if I should be sent back to my Lord, I will definitely get something better in return.” (Surat Al-Kahf, 35-36)

Our Lord informs us of the condition of the person whose garden was destroyed as a calamity that came over him due to his denial.
There was no group to come to his aid, besides Allah, and he was not given any help. In that situation, the only protection is from Allah, the Almighty. He gives the best reward and the best outcome.

Almighty Allah “knows what their hearts keep hidden and what they divulge” (Surat An-Naml, 74). Those who are insincere to Allah are people who cannot appreciate Allah properly and who cannot comprehend this great fact. Almighty Allah, Who knows all that is concealed, is certainly the One, Who knows best the sincerity in a person’s heart. Our Lord states in one verse of the Qur’an as thus:
Your Lord knows best what is in your selves. If you are righteous, He is Ever-Forgiving to the remorseful. (Surat Al-Isra, 25)

14 Tips for the Last 10 Nights of Ramadan

1. Do not let your ‘performance’ until now affect your last 10 days. The moment of forgiveness could be today or anytime in the coming days! It is not all lost! If you sincerely wish it could have been better – Chin up and get ready to make it your best yet! Start with a positive, sincere intention!

2. Today, take a little time to read the Tafseer of Surah al-Qadr to understand what actually happens this night! You will feel its power & greatness so much more!

3. Do not wait for the 27th Night to give it your “all”. The entire last 10 days should be your target. Stay up each night! Would you want to miss Laylatul Qadr even “by chance”?

4. Do not fall into any innovations/celebrations any Masjid or culture might try to promote. Follow the Sunnah! The Prophet (ﷺ) guided us simply: “Whoever stays up and prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

5. Memorize and keep asking the dua’ taught by Rasulullah (ﷺ): Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni (O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).

6. Prepare a short dua’ list. Remember this is as awesome as it ever gets for a servant of Allah! The Night of Qadr, of Destiny! Consciously pick each and everything you crucially wish for in this Dunya, in your deen, family, and in your aakhirah! Don’t forget to include the brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering and in grief!

7. Take brief naps during the day, if possible. Keep your stomach light and sleep as soon as you have prayed ‘isha. Do not delay! After a brief nap, refresh yourself and get ready for worship.

8. Don’t neglect your family! Rasulullah (ﷺ) made it a point to wake up his wives throughout these nights! And yes, your children are not too young to stay up some part of the night – if they can be allowed to play video games or watch TV, they can be inspired to be up at least for some time! Prepare them, make them excited, plan some activities for them to do!

9. Look the Part: The way we dress and prepare has a big effect on our psychology. Wear your best, perfume yourself, and feel the energy!

10. Choose a spot, whether in the Masjid or in your home, where you can have peace and solitude. Keep your mushaf, praying mat, and water at hand so that you are not distracted by constantly getting up for this or that.

11. This is not the night to tweet pics or update FB statuses about how amazing the night is and how you are feeling & worshipping Allah! Let that be a secret between you & your Rabb! So switch off those phones, WiFi, laptops, and computers. Disconnect with the world, and connect with al-‘Afuww!

12. If you find yourself feeling sleepy, vary your acts of worship. Alternate between qiyaam, heartfelt dua’a, reading the Qur’an. Do not spend the night listening to lectures or recitations. Or do it only for a short while when you feel the sleep coming on!

13. Patience is the Key: The last 10 days might be tiring. You might still have work or school. This is the time to bear all that hardship, and keep firm sabr. Think how Allah has blessed you with this tremendous opportunity that might NEVER come again in your life again. If you knew for sure that this was your last Ramadan if you knew certainly that Jannah was up for grabs, wouldn’t you sprint for it no matter what it takes?

14. This is most important: Keep Husn adh-dhann bi Allāh (good expectations from Allah). When you ask, remember you are asking the Most Generous King. If you hope for the best, He will give you the best. Don’t hold back. Trust in Him, pour out your heart in front of Him, and let no doubt, no barrier, no evil thoughts keep you away from ar-Rahman, ar-Raheem!

Ramadan Greetings

Muslims all over the world are lucky to have another golden opportunity to welcome the holy month of Ramadan and enjoy its great blessings. The daytime fasting and nighttime prayers, as well as recitation from the Holy Qur’an and reflection on its verses, spiritually energize the faithful to lead a better life, benefitting humanity.

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, has cautioned Muslims 14 centuries ago that the Ramadan fasting should have a real impact on their lives. He said:

“Let it not be that the day that you fast and the day you do not fast be the same.” Meaning, Ramadan should change one’s behavior, attitude and outlook toward life.

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed upon you as it has been prescribed upon those before you, so that you may attain Taqwa or piety. (2:183)

Ramadan is a month-long training program for Muslims to change their lives, establishing a closer relationship with God. During this holy month, they engage in prayers seeking the forgiveness of Allah, recite and reflect on the Qur’an, perform the Taraweeh night prayers, and attend special Islamic classes.
Many faithful perform itikaf or retreat at mosques during the last ten nights of Ramadan, leaving all worldly pursuits to establish a closer relationship with God.
Patience is another important quality one develops during Ramadan through fasting. Allah has mentioned the word sabr or patience more than seventy times in the Qur’an and commanded patience in more than sixteen ways in the holy book. When one fasts from dawn to dusk, giving up food and drink and marital sexual relations for several hours, he/she learns restraint and patience.
Ramadan encourages the faithful to engage in charitable and good activities beneficial to humanity.
The fasting in the holy month develops a strong feeling among the faithful that Allah is watching all their activities.
As a result, they will ask themselves before doing anything, ‘Does God love this action? Is God pleased with this action?’ Thus they gain the quality of watching oneself and staying away from showing off.
According to a Hadith of the Prophet, Allah has said:

“Fasting is for Me and I reward it.” (Bukhari) God singles out fasting from all other types of worship saying, “Fasting is for Me,”

because no one knows whether you are fasting or not, except God. Fasting trains the faithful to fear God when they are alone.
The Prophet has advised his followers,

“Whoever does not abandon falsehood in word and action, then Allah has no need that he should leave his food and drink.” (Bukhari) This Hadith reminds Muslims that they should purify their manners. The Qur’an has stated that the Prophet Muhammad “was sent to perfect good manners.”

Ramadan is a month for Muslims to change their lives for the better, leaving behind un-Islamic and immoral practices, to lead an exemplary life. The Prophet has said,

“Every human being sins and the best of the sinners are those who repent.”

(Ibn Maajah) God provides many opportunities to repent and seek His forgiveness. Allah says in the Qur’an: ”

Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)

Fasting in Ramadan not only enhances spirituality but also offers a lot of medical benefits. Fasting has been recommended by doctors for weight management and its physiological effect includes lowering of blood sugar, cholesterol and systolic blood pressure.
Muslims compete with one another in charitable activities during Ramadan to win Allah’s pleasure and reward. Abdullah bin Abaas said,

“The Prophet was the most charitable amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when angel Jibreel used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month.” (Bukhari)

The Prophet said,

“He who gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will receive the same reward as him, without nothing being reduced from the fasting person’s reward.” (Tirmudi)

Inspired by this Hadith, Muslims spend huge amounts of money during the fasting month for distributing iftar meals at mosques and public places. Millions of worshippers get iftar meals at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah as they break their fast jointly without facing any difficulty.
Muslims all over the world fast during the holy month, thus strengthening their unity and solidarity and they need this unity more than anytime before to confront growing challenges. All the teachings of Islam urge the Muslim faithful to stand together and should not disintegrate.
Allah says in the Qur’an:

“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you — when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided. And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful. And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment. (3:103-105)

Fasting in Ramadan teaches Muslims to learn discipline, which is essential for them to make progress. The Prophet has made us adhere to discipline and strictness, strictness that does not lead to fanaticism or going outside the bounds that God has laid down.
One cannot knowingly break the fast before the sunset, as it will not be accepted by God. They are also not allowed to delay breaking fast with the aim of getting more rewards. Muslims should learn to be very strict in their lives because they are people of an important message.

Amongst the nights of Ramadan, there is one special night of Power (Qadr), which is highlighted in Surah Al-Qadr, saying it has the significance of being better than a thousand months. (Qur’an 97:3).

This was the night when Qur’an was revealed to mankind. Prophet Muhammad urged Muslims to seek this night in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan. Fasting made compulsory during Ramadan to make the faithful thank God for revealing the Holy Qur’an during this month as a blessing and guidance for mankind.
Qur’an says:

“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.” (2:185)
